Phones and liquids don't mix. Whether it's a coffee spill, a swimming pool dunk, or rain in your back pocket, the first 10 minutes matter more than anything else.
Corrosion starts the instant liquid touches a circuit. Every minute counts, read this fast and act faster.
Modern phones have water resistance ratings, but "resistant" isn't "proof." Even rated phones develop micro-leaks over time as seals degrade.
Power It Off Immediately
Don't try to use the phone to check if it's working. Don't unlock it. Just press and hold power until it shuts down. Most water damage happens not from the liquid itself but from short-circuits while the phone is still powered on with wet components.
Don't Plug It In To Charge
A wet charging port + voltage = guaranteed short circuit. The damage is often catastrophic and takes out the logic board entirely. Keep your phone unplugged.
Skip The Rice Trick
We know, everyone tells you to put your phone in rice. Don't. Rice doesn't absorb moisture from sealed electronics, and rice dust can clog the charging port and speaker grilles. Leave the rice in the cupboard.
Get It To A Professional Within 24 Hours
The single most effective thing you can do:
- Power off, already covered. Do this first.
- Don't try to charge it, keep it unplugged until inspected.
- Bring it to a repair shop with ultrasonic cleaning equipment, ideally within 24 hours.
- We disassemble and chemically clean every component, removing mineral residue.
- Replace any corroded parts before reassembly.
The earlier we catch it, the higher the chance of full data recovery.
What About Data?
If your phone won't power on after water exposure, your photos, contacts, and messages may still be recoverable from the storage chip, even if the rest of the phone is destroyed.
Bring in even a phone you think is "dead." We attempt data recovery before you write it off, and recover photos and contacts from devices that won't power on every week.
